Winter Spraying Routine and Recommendations

Deer resistant plants are available at most nurseries, gardening stores, and markets.  People commonly think these plants are not going to be eaten by deer,unfortunately this may not be the case.   These plants are deer resistant not deer proof and in areas where the deer density is high the deer will still eat the deer resistant plants out of necessity in order to prevent starvation.

Most people believe there is a deer repellant spraying or application season. Deer prefer to eat live plant leaves but once all the leaves are off the trees and plants the deer will eat the small branches. Deer Fear recommends spraying the following plants and shrubs throughout the winter to prevent deer damage.  

Arborvitaes
Boxwoods
Skip Laurels
Rhododendrons
Holly’s

 

You will likely not need to spray deer repellant as often as the spring and summer, but it is necessary
